OUR STORY

The whole concept of The Creamery Can coffee shop was birthed out of a desire to take a love of enjoying home cooked food with friends and family out from the kitchen table to the wider community.

Hugh and Alyson have four beautiful daughters, Molly, Grace, Olivia and Emily. Hugh is passionate about organic farming and his herd of organic dairy cows.  However in a family with five girls he is the only one keen to milk them! Meanwhile, after a very successful career in private piano teaching and accompanying spanning over 20 years, Alyson decided to take a career break while the children were young.  During that time her love of baking blossomed further.  Diversification seemed the natural progression.  On 5th June 2014 the coffee shop first opened its doors and since then we have met the most wonderful people from all walks of life and indeed from all over the world.

All the family are now involved in the business, whether cooking, baking, serving food or taking orders and welcoming our amazing customers.  As a family we are on The Creamery Can journey together and it's a joy to have the opportunity to work together.

A highlight for Alyson is the opportunity to bake a range of gluten free cakes for customers who tell us that they sometimes struggle to find gluten free home made options elsewhere.  In our coffee shop we can proudly state that our gluten free bakes are equally popular with everyone.  We also make a point of adapting our regular savoury menu for gluten free customers so there is always plenty of choice.

The Barn...

People often ask us about the building itself.  Before renovation it was just an old stone barn with no floor in which we kept the oil tank!  The beautiful oak trusses were made by a talented local carpenter and the interior design has a distinctly quirky, up-cycled style.  All the windows and doors were a new addition to the property, allowing a spacious, airy feel.  We love the beautiful countryside and we believe in celebrating it.  Often our customers will comment on the sense of peace they feel during their visit to The Creamery Can.
